Mapping the Elan Valley’s ruined buildings
Over the past few years I’ve been (slowly) working on a project taking photos along the path of the Elan Valley aqueduct, exploring the communities and landscape along the way. I produced a small run zine of this work back at the end of 2023 (I still have copies knocking around if you want one) and haven’t really done much more work on it since, until recently that is when I looked through the work again and realised there was much more I wanted to do.
An invaluable resource
A website I’ve visited often while researching the valley itself is https://www.elanvalleypastandpresent.co.uk and specifically the page listing out the various ruins in the valley along with grid references for their location. Being at least somewhat lazy, what I wanted was to see these locations on a map and so I’ve put together the following (with no small amount of help from ChatGPT).
Click the screenshot of the map below to view the interactive version.
Each of the ruins on the map should have an image and links back to the Elan past and present website where you can find more information.
I hope someone else finds this useful.
